Eligibility
Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) returns can now be processed online for Monterey County. If any information printed on your return form has changed or is incorrect, please make the necessary changes during the submittal process. If changes need to be made to any account related information that is not available online, please submit your return and corrections by postal mail.

Only one renewal per reporting period is allowed. In order to submit an amended TOT return or to report additional TOT tax information, please contact our office via email at: business.tax@co.monterey.ca.us or by phone at (831) 755-5057 for assistance.

On the following TOT return, you will be asked to enter the MCTID rate for your property. MCTID is a fee paid by hotels/motels/bed & breakfast that are considered either limited service, full-service, or full-service luxury facilities.

Limited-service facilities offer select or focused amenities, without a full-service restaurant. The MCTID rate for limited-service facilities is $1.50.

Full-service facilities offer full-service lodging properties with food and beverage revenues. The MCTID rate for full-service facilities is $4.50

Full-service luxury facilities offer premium services: restaurants, meeting spaces, exercise rooms, or spas, and have characteristics of five star hotels. MCTID rate for full-service luxury facilities is $7.00

If your TOT facility is not either limited, full service or full-service luxury, your MCTID rate is $0.00.

Your MCTID rate can also be found at the top of your tax return.

If you do not have a copy of your tax return, you can contact the Treasurer-Tax Collector for this information.
